Q: How does a Suction Oil Filter Work?
Oil suction filter removes impurities through physical interception, primarily by allowing the oil to pass through a mesh or filter material under the suction force of the oil pump, blocking solid particles while letting clean oil enter the system.
The workflow is roughly as follows: Upon starting the oil pump, the oil is drawn into the filter inlet. As it passes through multiple layers of filter screens, particulate matter is trapped, while the clean oil continues to flow into the system. It is typically installed at the oil pump's suction port, primarily to protect the oil pump and hydraulic components from damage by impurities.
⚠️ Precautions
The filter screen is typically made of coarse metal mesh with a mesh size of 100 to 200, primarily used to block larger particles rather than control the system's fine cleanliness. It is essential to prevent excessive pressure loss, as this could easily lead to cavitation in the oil pump.
Q: What is suction filtration used for?
The main purpose of the oil suction filter is:
- protect the oil pump and other hydraulic components,
- prevent the inhalation of pollutants, and
- prevent impurities from entering the hydraulic system and causing damage.
It is usually installed at the oil pump suction port, which can filter out solid particles and gel like substances in the working medium, keep the system clean, thus extend the service life of the oil pump and the entire hydraulic system.
It should be noted that it usually only performs coarse filtration (with a common accuracy of 80-180 μm), mainly to protect the pump, and is not used to finely control the degree of oil contamination in the system.
