Q: Can you clean a hydraulic filter?
Hydraulic filters can be cleaned, but it depends on the material of the filter element. Metal mesh, copper mesh and other types of filter elements can be washed, while fiberglass or paper filter elements have poor cleaning effect and usually need to be replaced directly.
⚠️ Before cleaning, distinguish the type of filter element
Cleanable filter element: made of materials such as metal mesh, copper mesh, sintered type, etc., can continue to be used after cleaning.
Non washable filter elements: glass fiber, composite filter paper, wood pulp filter paper, etc. If cleaning cannot achieve filtration accuracy, they should be replaced directly.
Q: How often should industrial hydraulic filters be replaced?
There is no unified fixed replacement cycle for industrial hydraulic filters, and they are usually judged comprehensively based on four standards: working hours, calendar time, pressure difference alarm, and oil change nodes. The general recommendation is to replace the oil suction filter every 2000 hours of operation, and the return filter every 250 hours for the first time and every 500 hours thereafter.
The cycles given by different sources vary, such as regular replacement every 6 months, or replacement every 400 or 500 hours according to equipment operating conditions. This is directly related to equipment type, environmental dust, and oil cleanliness, so the actual implementation should be based on the equipment manual.
⏱️ By working hours
This is the most commonly used method of judgment, with different filter positions having different cycles:
- Oil suction filter: Replace every 2000 hours of operation.
- Return oil filter element: Replace after 250 hours of initial operation and every 500 hours thereafter.
- High pressure/circulating filter cartridge: Referring to the manufacturer's specifications, it is generally around 500 hours, please refer to the equipment manual for details.
📅 According to calendar time
If the device is not used frequently, use the calendar time as a backup:
- Normal operating conditions: Check or replace every 6 months.
- Environments with high dust levels (mines, steel mills, construction sites): It is recommended to inspect every 3-4 months or replace every 300 hours.
- Overall lifespan reference: Some sources say that the hydraulic oil filter element is replaced in about 3 years, while others say that the hydraulic return oil filter element can be used for 2-3 years.
