Air Dryer Filter

Air dryer filter is used to dry and filter the compressed air in the compressor of heavy duty vehicles, so as to avoid the impurities, moisture, oil drops, oil vapor and particle pollutants brought by the compressed air in the process of compression and transmission pipeline, and reach to the air tank and valve so on air tools of the braking and suspension system again. Especially in winter, it may cause the pump valve to freeze and cause the brake failure. Air dryer for truck is high-pressure air brakes, which are usually used in the air brake system of large buses or heavy trucks.

However, the moisture that can be absorbed by the drying tank at a single time is limited. If not treated, the drying tank will be saturated and lose the dehumidification function. Therefore, the drying tank must be equipped with a back blowing system, which uses compressed air to back blow out the water in the truck air dryers tank and restore the performance of the drying tank. The air filter is installed between the compressor and the air reservoir. Other functions include:

Types of air dryer

Black Air dryer filter, black color. It is the supporting products of commercial vehicle manufacturers. This air dryer cartridge is belong to the front loading field. The internal structure and molecular sieve are basically the same as shite color.

White Air dryer filter, It’s a product used in the after-sales market too. Compared with the blue can, the white has better performance and higher price.

Blue Air dryer filter, this is an air dryer filter for aftermarket replacement in the chinese market. On the basis of German standard, it has better cost control and higher cost performance

Silvery Air dryer filter, One more function to filter oil and impurity than the usual dryers, so the price is also be higher.

Golden Air dryer filter, This is the best dryer filter, Water absorption and oil filtering function are more powerful and durability also better. It is mainly used in imported special vehicles and some military vehicles.

Working Principle

In the air dryer filters drying process, the heat and quality (moisture content) transfer should be completed at the same time to ensure that the moisture vapor partial pressure (concentration) on the surface of the material is higher than the moisture vapor partial pressure in the external space, and that the heat source air temperature is higher than the material temperature.

The heat is transferred to the wet material from the high temperature heat source in various ways, which makes the moisture on the surface of the material vaporize and escape to the external space, thus the difference of moisture content appears on the surface and inside of the material. The internal moisture diffuses to the surface and vaporizes, so that the moisture content of the material is continuously reduced, and the overall drying of the material is gradually completed.

The drying rate of the material depends on the vaporization rate of the surface and the diffusion rate of the internal moisture. Generally, the drying rate in the early stage of drying is controlled by the surface evaporation rate; then, as long as the external conditions of drying remain unchanged, the drying rate and surface temperature of the material remain stable, this stage is called constant speed drying stage; when the moisture content of the material decreases to a certain extent, the diffusion rate of the internal moisture to the surface decreases, and is smaller than the surface evaporation rate, the drying rate is mainly from the inside The rate of partial diffusion is determined and decreases with the decrease of moisture content. This stage is called the rate reduction drying stage.

Adsorption occurs when air flows through the air brake dryer. This is through the use of special particles with strong moisture absorption of water in the air for chemical combination. This is called molecular sieve desiccant. The utility model relates to a synthetic desiccant product with strong adsorption for water molecules. The pore size of molecular sieve can be controlled by different processing technology. In addition to adsorbing water vapor, it can also adsorb other gases. At the high temperature above 230, it can still hold water molecules well.

You need to replace a new one. Cleaning them with compressed air only ruptures them and lets bigger particles get in. Filter changes are a normal part of preventative maintenance.

During the use of the air dryer, the water accumulation of the brake air receiver shall be checked regularly. Pull the pull ring of the drain valve. If there is obvious water accumulation in the air receiver, replace the desiccant. The service life of the desiccant is generally no more than two years.

If the drying cylinder is of a non detachable structure, the whole drying cylinder shall be replaced. The replacement method is to remove the drying cylinder with both hands in a counterclockwise direction and replace it with a new one. The tightening torque is generally 15N * M.

If the drying cylinder is a detachable structure, only the desiccant in the drying cylinder can be replaced. The replacement method is: remove the fastening bolts of the drying cylinder, take out the used desiccant, and install a new desiccant. The filter ring needs to be cleaned.

When you don’t change the air dryer filters on time, the air and water will enter into the air brake system. The brake system is easy to mix impurities, especially moisture, which condenses into air flow when the normal temperature changes in daily. The engine oil enters the air flow when the compressor blows. As time goes on, it will lead to the increase of maintenance cost, thus reducing braking efficiency, and may lead to brake system failure.

Oil can cause premature damage to various components, such as push-pull instrument panel valves, spring brake regulating valves and brake chamber diaphragms. Oil deteriorated seals can cause air system leakage, and oil contamination can cause any system that relies on clean air for proper operation to fail, including air braking, engine, emissions, and drive train systems.

The service life of the drying tank has a great relationship with the service environment. Generally speaking, when the farthest air storage tank from the air compressor can discharge water, it proves that the dryer has tended to be invalid, and a new air dryer for truck should be replaced immediately.
